Master Tailors

Baltazar Chapela is a Master Tailor exclusively employed by J. David's on their premises in Southern California. Baltazar was born in Morelia Michoacan, Mexico, and began learning the art of fine tailoring at the age of 15. He has been a mainstay at J. David's since 1988 and personally oversees all "finish" tailoring for J. David's clients, both in California and across the nation.

Ayan Dururuvrur and his father Ahmat from Turkey, have been tailors since the age of 12. They are involved in crafting each and every J. David's "Top of the Line" garment. Most people don't realize, the insides of a finer suit are as important as the fabric on the outside.

J. David's "Top of the Line" collection features coats using Italian basted canvas fronts made of goat hair and fine wool. These new fronts are the most supple and soft hair canvas made anywhere. The collars of these coats are handcrafted with leaf-turned edges for perfect fit and alignment. Hand stitching and pressing insures the collar will fit like no other! The tailoring alone takes over forty minutes per collar.

The armholes of a J.David's "Top of the Line" garment are sewn by hand using the finest silk thread which gives more comfort and movement than you would normally get (even in another custom-made suit) without this time-consuming feature. The shoulder seams are hand basted for impeccable style and drape, which is fundamental to the silhouette of the finished coat.

Angelo DeFelice, another Master Tailor from Abruzzi, Italy, personally underpresses and finishes every J. David's "Top of the Line" coat. Over twenty detailed underpressing steps create a memory to the fabric. Using heat, moisture and pressure, natural fabrics will retain a memory. This ensures the coat will retain its shape even after repeated wearings.

This team of master craftsmen uphold the time honored traditions and training of their forefathers. For generations they have practiced and honed their craft to a fine edge. There is no substitute for world class experience. There is no room for compromise.
